MARCO is a scavenger receptor found on particular macrophage subsets
Rabbit polyclonal purified antibody
Cat. No.: HS-499 003
Amount: 50 µg
Price: $370.00
Cat. No. HS-499 003 50 µg specific antibody, lyophilized. Affinity purified with the immunogen. Albumin and azide were added for stabilization. For reconstitution add 50 µl H2O to get a 1mg/ml solution in PBS. Then aliquot and store at -20°C to -80°C until use.
Antibodies should be stored at +4°C when still lyophilized. Do not freeze!

MARCO positive marginal zone macrophages (green) and CD169 positive metallophilic macrophages (red) in a mouse spleen

Background

The macrophage receptor with collagenous structure (MARCO) belongs to the class A scavenger receptor (SR-A) family, all of which are transmembrane proteins with a homotrimeric structure (1). MARCO is constitutively expressed by peritoneal macrophages and splenic marginal zone macrophages. Its expression can be induced in other macrophages, such as Kupffer cells or alveolar macrophages, after bacterial infection or intravenous injection of LPS (2). MARCO mediates the binding of pathogens and unopsonized environmental particles, suggesting an important role in host defense (3). In tumor-associated macrophages, MARCO defines a subtype of suppressive TAMs (4) and is considered a potential prognostic and immunotherapeutic biomarker (5).
